Kimberly McDavid Schmidt is a Clinical Assistant Professor in Teaching and Learning Sciences in the Morgridge College of Education where she teaches literacy and culturally and linguistically diverse learner courses and focuses on the integration of culturally responsive and digital literacy practices in courses and classrooms in schools.

Professional Biography

Kimberly McDavid Schmidt graduated from University of Colorado Boulder with a degree in Curriculum and Instruction- Literacy Studies. She recently received an AERA award in 2018 for the Outstanding Dissertation in the Literature Sig for her work with digital and multimodal responses to literature. She continues her focus on literacy and digital literacies in her role as a clinical professor, teaching and studying the integration of culturally responsive and digital literacy practices for teachers in classroom settings. Further, she uses embodied, multimodal, critical, and sociocultural literacy perspectives and methodologies throughout her work.

Research

Kimberly McDavid Schmidt conducts qualitative and multimodal research that draws upon sociocultural, multiliteracies, and embodied literacy perspectives. She situates her research in classrooms with a focus on culturally responsive and digital literacy practices.
Kim recently completed her award-wining dissertation focused on multimodal and digital responses literature. Next, she plans to look at the adaption of culturally responsive and digital literacy practices in apprentice and new teachers' classrooms.
