University of Denver’s Josef Korbel School Celebrates 50th Anniversary
The University of Denver’s Josef Korbel School of International Studies announced two-days of events to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its founding and to mark its ascent to the future. Both events will feature special guest Dr. Condoleezza Rice, an alumna of the School.
The Korbel Dinner 50th Anniversary Celebration will be held on Sept. 22, 2014 in Denver. The evening will include a keynote conversation with Rice led by Christopher Hill, dean of the Josef Korbel School, and four-time U.S. Ambassador. The pair will discuss topics ranging from international affairs to Rice’s time at the Josef Korbel School. The University will also honor special guests:
- Recipient of the International Bridge Builders Award, Jeffrey R. Tarr, CEO of DigitalGlobe (for his work building ties between Colorado and the international community); and
- Recipients of the Josef Korbel Humanitarian Award, Anna and John J. Sie (in recognition of their unusually generous philanthropic work within the Denver community and beyond).

The following morning, Sept. 23 at 8 a.m., Rice will join the University of Denver community for the ceremonial groundbreaking of a new state-of-the-art building. The new building will adjoin the Josef Korbel School’s existing facilities on the DU campus to form the Anna and John J. Sie International Relations Complex—named in honor of the philanthropists whose leadership make the new building possible. Additional details about the ceremony will be released in the near future.
“The Korbel Dinner and groundbreaking will be an opportunity to honor our school's rich history and the legacy of Josef Korbel, the School's founder and first dean,” said Hill. “Since its founding the School has become a leading institution for training global leaders. Standing on the foundation built by Josef Korbel we will reach even greater heights with the construction of the Anna and John J. Sie International Relations Complex.”
