We are creating an interactive application “D U Want to Build-A-Bot?” in the style of a video game character creation screen. This application allows users to design robots that are, in the user’s opinion, most capable of expressing various kinds of human attributes linked to mind perception. The results of each user’s design will be analyzed to help us better understand what aspects of a robot’s appearance enable humans to identify minds in robots. The data we will collect will allow us to not only help guide future robotic design, but also to create novel designs that have an increased likelihood of being perceived in certain ways by users. The data we collect and the novel designs we create will allow for the creation of robots that are capable of more natural interactions and seamless integration.
