Encouraging The Pursuit Of Higher Education Among Young Adults With Neuromuscular Diseases

When it is time for young adults with neuromuscular diseases to transition from pediatric care to the adult systems, there are plenty of resources available regarding a variety of issues – however, that does not include the process of attending colleges. The intent of this project is to create a guide for these young adults within Colorado, walking them through navigating college life and requesting accommodations. I have partnered with Children’s Hospital Colorado in Aurora, CO to work alongside transitioning patients and, in the end, to create some type of literature that can be passed along to other hospitals and programs across the country. This will encourage these young adults to pursue higher education and will increase the diversity of all universities, benefiting future generations.
