Our unique interdisciplinary programs unpack how social, environmental, political and economic intersections shape global affairs. We emphasize real-world experience through study abroad opportunities, internships and simulated debates, equipping you with both the theoretical framework and hands-on experience you'll need to put ideas into motion.
We challenge you to think critically and explore solutions to the most pressing challenges of our time: responding to new and emerging security threats, advancing human rights and social justice, making the global economy fairer and more inclusive, combating climate change, and resisting threats to democracy around the world. We give you the skills you will need to be an effective leader on these and other critical global issues.
Korbel Advantages
Great Student-to-Faculty Ratio
Korbel currently has a 18:1 student-to-faculty ratio. Students work closely with faculty, practitioners and experts to advance research and scholarship in the field.
The current average size of an undergraduate class at Korbel is 30 students, and an average graduate seminar is 22 students. Our small class sizes allow for greater collaboration with faculty and increased collaboration among students.
Our curricula combine a broad and rigorous training in conventional fields—international politics, comparative politics, international political economy and/or political theory—while leaving room for customization.
Our faculty is interdisciplinary to its core, representing more than a dozen different fields. And our degrees allow you to complement your studies with classes from other schools and departments. Common secondary studies are in languages, economics and business. We also offer dual degrees to undergraduates and certificate programs to masters students.
We emphasize learning by doing through internship opportunities, research fellowships, study abroad programs and simulated exercises. The skills you will develop will empower you to contribute to the public good, after graduation and throughout your career.
As one of the leading international studies schools in the country, we are tasked with empowering tomorrow's global leaders. By examining today's critical issues with the support of like-minded peers and world-class faculty, you can examine problems on a global scale and develop strategies to improve lives.
The Josef Korbel School of International Studies is a leading center for advanced training and research in international affairs. Many of our students go on to shape politics, policy, big businesses and humanitarian efforts in non-profits.
As Monica Sutherland surveyed the internship landscape heading into the summer, she wanted two things: an internship based in Denver and one affecting meaningful change.
