Carianne Colwell

Adjunct Faculty

Carianne Vanhoozer Colwell has more than seventeen years of national security experience, including significant expertise in conflict zones, counterinsurgency programs, and civilian-military partnerships. After serving as a linguist and intelligence specialist in the US Army, she worked 13 years as an analyst and manager at the Central Intelligence Agency, specializing in the Middle East, South and Central Asia, and counterintelligence. She then worked in Colorado as a consultant on strategic national security assets. During her career, she served as the senior political adviser in Afghanistan, briefer to the US Commander of the International Security Assistance Force, and managed an interagency counterintelligence program. She earned her Master’s in Near Eastern Studies at the University of Arizona and she teaches courses on strategic intelligence, insurgencies, and US policy.
