Josiah Hatch

Adjunct Faculty

Josiah Hatch is an adjunct professor of global economic affairs specializing in political risk analysis, international economic policy, business and finance, supply chain management, international economic crime and business ethics.  He has been an instructor at Korbel for 15 years and has also taught securities law at the Sturm College of Law and business ethics at the Daniels School of Business. In 2019, the University of Denver awarded him the Ruth Murray Underhill Teaching Award.  He served for 13 years on the board of Korbel’s Social Science Foundation.  He received a B.A summa cum laude from Princeton as a University Scholar in classical languages and literature. He was a Marshall Scholar at Pembroke College Oxford, earning a degree in early English language and literature.  He received a JD in international law and policy from Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. after serving as a speechwriter at the Federal Energy Administration, the Special Assistant to the Chairman of the U.S. International Trade Commission, and the Director of Public and Academic Programs at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History.  He was in private practice as an international lawyer in D.C. and Denver for 40 years, listed in Super Lawyers, Best Lawyers in America and Martindale-Hubbell Peer Ratings, including being designated “Securities Litigation Lawyer of the Year” in 2023 by Best Lawyers in Colorado.  His book-length poem “A Journey to St. Thomas: Tales for Our Time” (Fulcrum Publishing) a modern reimagining of Geoffrey Chaucer’s “The Canterbury Tales”, won the National Independent Booksellers Association’ Indie Award for Poetry in 2024. He is the co-author with John F. Olson of the legal treatise “Director and Officer Liability, Indemnification and Insurance” published by West Publishing.
