Kate Tennis

Teaching Associate Professor

Director, University Undergraduate Honors Program

Kate is a Teaching Associate Professor at the Korbel School of International Studies as well as being the Faculty Director of the DU University Honors Program. She previously directed DU Undergraduate Research Center. She works primarily with undergraduate students at DU, and specializes in teaching classes and mentoring students in undergraduate research experiences. She teaches introductory classes on international politics and research methods as well as specialized topics including human security, immigration, and development.

Her research focuses on immigration politics “ both internationally and locally. Her book, Outsourcing Control: The Politics of International Migration Cooperation, explores the way that countries of origin and transit work with destination states to police migration from afar. The first comprehensive study to trace the emergence of extraterritorial migration control agreements across nations, the book reveals the international and domestic pressures behind the complex, brutal, and often deadly situation facing migrants today. More recently, she has begun linking this work to the politics of migration domestically and at the city level, including in Denver.
