Associate Professor
David Goldfischer is Associate Professor at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies, where he served as founding director of the Programs in International Security and Homeland Security. He received his Ph.D. from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1989, and has had fellowships at the Brookings Institution, the University of Colorado, Boulder, and the Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation. He was Visiting Professor of Counterterrorism and Homeland Security, National Defense University (2004-5). From 2010-2013, he served as founding director of the Institute for Civil and International Security at Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Dr. Goldfischer's research has focused on the fields of nuclear arms control, human rights and security, globalization and security, and U.S. foreign policy toward the Middle East. The paperback edition of his book The Best Defense: Policy Alternatives for U.S. National Security from the 1950s to the 1990s will be published in February, 2025 by Cornell University Press. In addition to his scholarly work, Dr. Goldfischer has served as a consultant on homeland security projects for the Departments of Defense and Homeland Security.
