Webinar: Launching the Scenario Evolution Process

Long-term climate and development research depends on shared global scenarios that help us think systematically about possible futures. One of the most widely used sets of scenarios—the Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSPs)—may need to evolve to reflect today’s interconnected challenges, from climate risks to inequality and biodiversity loss.

The International Committee on New Integrated Climate Change Assessment Scenarios (ICONICS) is launching the Scenario Evolution Process (SEP), a research community–driven effort to rethink and update these scenarios for the next generation of work on resilient, equitable, and sustainable development. The process will gather input from a wide range of scenario producers and users, and will inform the backbone of climate, development, and biodiversity research for years to come.

The Frederick S. Pardee Institute for International Futures is supporting this effort by hosting the SEP website and the first global survey.
