World Bank Group Consultant Presents at Pardee Institute

Research staff and aides at the Pardee Institute enjoyed a presentation by Brian J. Walsh, Disaster Risk Management Consultant for the World Bank Group and the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery, on Wednesday, October 19th. “Well-Being as a Tool for Measuring Natural Disaster Impacts” examined the methodology behind the World Bank’s flagship 2016 report, Unbreakable, which looks beyond traditional metrics of economic loss due to natural disasters. The approach takes fuller account of how poverty increases vulnerability to disasters, and how disasters can trap people in poverty.
