About

The mission of the Center on American Politics is to convene policymakers, political observers and scholars to analyze and discuss important issues of our day in an informed, open and nonpartisan manner.

We're part of the Korbel School's Scrivner Institute of Public Policy, a research institute dedicated to exploring today's most pressing public policy issues and working to develop positive solutions.

History

Launched in 2017, the Center now has a director who is responsible for vision and administration, affiliated faculty from across the University, a post-doctoral scholar who provides ongoing intellectual input and direction, and staff support for the Center and faculty. It continues to conduct community programming, support innovative scholarship and serve as a resource for government and non-governmental organizations. Funding for those priorities will come through gift sources as well as foundation and government grants enabled by the Center.

The University has demonstrated a need and interest – along with community support – for such an endeavor through successful programs, including panels organized around elections, presidential debates and other key events.

Research & Dialogue

We foster research on various issues of contemporary concern in American politics, touching on topics like emotion and cognition and how it relates to recent elections, how business firms respond to political polarization, and how people of different partisan beliefs can have conversations without activating their ideological differences.
