Avant Receives Honorary Degree
Professor Deborah Avant, the Sié Chéou-Kang Chair for International Security and Diplomacy and Director of the Sié Chéou-Kang Center for International Security and Diplomacy, received an honorary degree from the University of St. Gallen.
The certificate given to Avant reads:
The University of St. Gallen School of Management, Economics, Law, Social Sciences and International Affairs (HSG) confers on Professor Deborah Avant, Ph.D. the honorary degree Doctor of Political Science (Dr. Rer. Publ. H.C.)
The University of St. Gallen hereby honours her outstanding research in the field of international security as well as her contributions toward the establishment of national and international standards for the regulation of private military and security companies in conformity with the requirements of human rights, international law and democratic accountability.
Avant explained, "I feel very honored that the University of St. Gallen would recognize my work in this way. And I am grateful to the Sie family as well as the leadership at the Josef Korbel School and the University of Denver for giving me the support I needed to turn an idea for the Private Security Monitor into reality."
