Congratulations to the following faculty and staff members who received grants and awards in January 2020.

Elaine Belansky

Elaine Belansky, research associate professor at the Morgridge College of Education and director of the Center for Rural School Health & Education (CRSHE)

  • Grant from the Colorado Health Foundation for "The Resiliency Project"
  • Project abstract: CRSHE proposes to launch The Resiliency Project with the goal of improving youth resiliency and mental health by implementing school-level strategies in rural, high-poverty secondary schools that are intended to reach all students and particularly students experiencing the greatest health inequities. The Resiliency Project will take place in conjunction with the Make it Happen project, which includes 27 rural school districts.
Anne DePrince

Anne DePrince, chair of the Department of Psychology at the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences

  • Grant from the Denver District Attorney's Office, subaward from the U.S. Department of Justice for "Innovative Prosecution Solutions for Combatting Violent Crime Denver District Attorney's Office Digital Evidence Initiative"
  • Project abstract: This project will create innovative, effective strategies to address and prosecute individuals who commit violent crime, with a specific focus on gang activity. Through the creation of a dedicated Digital Evidence Task Force, in conjunction with the Denver Police Department, and a partnership with VTO labs, the project will create an informed response to gang-related violent crime. These enhancements will result in long-term systemic improvement of investigation and prosecution practices, an increase in collaboration between the Denver District Attorney's Office and the Denver Police Department, and ultimately the reduction and prevention of violent gang-related crime in Denver.

  • Grant from MST Services, LLC for "MST Services – Therapeutic Health Services Annual Training and Support" 
  • Project abstract: GSSW's Center for Effective Interventions will provide Multi-Systemic Therapy (MST) clinical support and training including weekly MST telephone consultation for the MST clinical team(s), consultation, booster training sessions and all required training materials and manuals.

Daniel Linseman, professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics

  • Grant from NJZ Memory Care LLC for "The ALLOTTED Study: ALUMIA Lifestyle Options to Treat Early Dementia"
  • Project abstract: The major goal of the proposed pilot study is to gather essential data on the potential therapeutic benefits of the Alumia multimodal approach to lifestyle intervention therapy for patients with dementia. The findings obtained will determine whether a subsequent large-scale trial of this non-pharmaceutical treatment option is warranted in patients with dementia.

  • Project abstract: This project will examine the relationship between quality rating initiatives, quality ratings and quality relating to other early childhood education environmental factors to kindergarten readiness of Denver Preschool Program participants.
