Global Health Security in the 21st Century

Dr. Matthew Lim presented "Global Health Security in the 21st Century" as part of the Josef Korbel School Global Health Affairs program's annual fall quarter welcome lecture.

"It's a great honor for me to be back here in Denver," said Lim, who completed medical school at the University of Colorado.  Currently, Lim is a senior advisor on global health security within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services office of Global Affairs.  He describes this department as "the foreign policy shop within HHS."

During the September 11, 2013 evening lecture, Lim explained that health security is "a pretty slippery term" that means different things to different groups.  He outlined three different perspectives on global health security and used the H5N1 avian flu to illustrate each perspective.
