The Josef Korbel School of International Studies today announced that it will celebrate the 50th anniversary of its founding at the 2014 Korbel Dinner.

The Korbel Dinner 50th Anniversary Celebration will be held on Monday, Sept. 22, 2014 at the Sheraton Denver Downtown. "This year's Korbel Dinner is an opportunity to honor our school's rich history and the legacy of Josef Korbel, the School's founder and first dean," said Christopher Hill, dean of the Josef Korbel School. "Since its founding the School has become a leading institution for the study of international relations. Today, we continue the upward trajectory launched by Josef Korbel. At the Dinner we will look ahead to our bright future, which includes the construction of a new state-of-the-art building on the University of Denver campus—the Anna and John J. Sie International Relations Complex."

To help celebrate its golden anniversary, the School has invited one of its most recognizable alumni to deliver the evening's keynote address; 66th U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice (PhD '81, BA '74) will return to Denver for this milestone occasion. Special guests also include honorees for the evening:

  • Recipient of the International Bridge Builders Award, Jeffrey R. Tarr, CEO of DigitalGlobe (for his work building ties between Colorado and the international community); and
  • Recipients of the Josef Korbel Humanitarian Award, Anna and John J. Sie (in recognition of their unusually generous philanthropic work within the Denver community and beyond).
