State Department selects Josef Korbel School to host Diplomat in Residence

The Josef Korbel School of International Studies has been selected by the U.S. State Department to house a Diplomat in Residence beginning in the fall of 2016. The announcement was made today by the the Director General of the Foreign Service and Director of Human Resources at the Department of State, Arnold A. Chacon, in Denver.
Diplomats in Residence are career Foreign Service Officers and Specialists located throughout the U.S. who provide guidance and advice on careers, internships and fellowships to students and professionals in the communities they serve. The State Department will select a senior Foreign Service Officer for the assignment to the Josef Korbel School. He or she will focus on providing information to students and professionals in Colorado and Wyoming.
"The Josef Korbel School joins a select group of universities participating in this important program," said Ambassador Christopher R. Hill, dean of the Korbel School. "We are thrilled to be chosen for this honor and look forward to welcoming our Diplomat-in-Residence for the Academic Year 2016/2017."
Chacon is visiting Denver and Aspen to talk with students at the University of Denver about career opportunities at the Department of State and take part in the 2015 International Career Advancement Program (ICAP) at the Aspen Institute. Sponsored by the University of Denver and the Aspen Institute, ICAP seeks to bring greater diversity to the staffing of senior management and policy-making positions in international public service, both in the government and for private non-profit organizations, by mentoring and supporting promising mid-career professionals from underrepresented groups.
A Colorado native, Director General Chacon was the U.S. Ambassador to Guatemala from 2011 to 2014. He is a career member of the Foreign Service with over 33-years of experience serving in Latin America and Europe.
Founded in 1964, the Josef Korbel School of International Studies is one of the world’s leading schools for the study of international relations. The School offers degree programs in international affairs and is named in honor of its founder and first dean, Josef Korbel.
