Shoaib monitors the travels of world leaders to observe their international movements and activities. This includes identifying the purpose of their trips, whether it involves signing treaties, participating in summits, or engaging in other significant global events.

Shoaib's research has predominantly centered on historical insurgency and counterinsurgency (COIN) events, with a particular emphasis on evaluating the effectiveness of COIN strategies. The primary focus of this study has been the Middle East and its relations with the West.
