The Frederick S. Pardee Center for International Futures was invited to present at the African Union Development Agency's (AUDA-NEPAD) 20th-anniversary celebration in January 2021. The event provided an opportunity for prominent African scholars and thought leaders to reflect upon AUDA-NEPAD’s achievements and challenges since its inception in 2001. It also served as a platform for high-level policy discourse while providing forward-looking guidance and facilitating partnership building through a cross-section of African stakeholders and strategic partners in support of AUDA-NEPAD’s new mandate.

Pardee Center Director Jonathan D. Moyer spoke at the event, which included contributions from various current and former heads of state and leaders of regional and continental organizations, including H.E. Cyril Ramaphosa, President of the Republic of South Africa, H.E Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda, and H.E Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of the African Union Commission. Dr. Moyer presented a summary of research collaborations between the Pardee Center and AUDA-NEPAD focusing on the future of development across the continent as well as policy choices that can improve cross-cutting measures of human development in the face of the COVID-19 global pandemic, emphasizing the importance of improving governance and multilateral solutions to developmental challenges.
