Jonathan Moyer Presents at Two USAID Events in Uganda
In early March, Dr. Jonathan D. Moyer, Frederick S. Pardee Center for International Futures Associate Director, was the keynote speaker at two events in Uganda. He presented at an event launching the preparation of USAID’s Uganda 2016-2021 Country Development Cooperation Strategy (CDCS) and also at USAID Uganda’s inaugural Development Speaker Series.
On March 2, Moyer spoke to USAID officers and practitioners from both Uganda and the U.S. about trends in Ugandan development that could inform the creation of Uganda’s forthcoming CDCS. The CDCS is a five-year strategy required from each USAID mission to inform budgeting, planning, and resource allocation, and Uganda is now preparing its second CDCS to cover the period 2016-2021. In addition to a focus on trends in Uganda’s development and their implications, the presentation included information about the International Futures model and how it might help inform a CDCS that could effectively allocate resources for both short and long-term development goals. As a follow-up to the presentation, the Frederick S. Pardee Center for International Futures is currently preparing a report for the USAID mission in Uganda that uses the International Futures model to evaluate potential CDCS strategies and how they would affect the country through 2040.
On March 3, Dr. Moyer presented to the USAID Development Speaker Series attendees, including ambassadors to Uganda, USAID representatives, and Ugandan ministers. His remarks focused on government investment strategy options for Uganda and suggested that water and sanitation investment would be especially beneficial for the country over the long-term.
