The Pardee Institute for International Futures has played a crucial role in Yemen’s first-ever Voluntary National Review (VNR) process, a framework for assessing progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Until 2024 Yemen had not yet participated due to ongoing conflict, although many countries have already submitted one or multiple VNRs.

However, leveraging experience from supporting Egypt’s VNR in 2021, the Pardee Institute's team, led by Taylor Hanna, the Associate Director of Development Analysis at the Institute, supported Yemen’s VNR. Utilizing the International Futures (IFs) model, the team assessed and forecasted Yemen’s progress toward key SDG indicators under two scenarios: a Current Path of development and a Development Push scenario.

The findings in the published report indicate that even with a robust development push, the complete achievement of the SDGs remains unlikely. However, the scenarios highlight the potential for meaningful improvements in the lives of Yemenis and underscore the urgent need for targeted development interventions and international support.

This contribution reflects the Pardee Institute’s continued commitment to advancing SDG progress and demonstrates the critical role of the IFs model in evaluating and forecasting development outcomes.
