Pardee Institute Senior Scientist Participates in IPCC Workshops
From May 18-20, Pardee Institute Senior Scientist Dr. Dale S. Rothman participated in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Expert Meeting on Scenarios in Laxenburg, Austria. The meeting focused on the IPCC’s Fifth Assessment Report (AR5) and its use of scenarios. The scenarios explore expected results of different global emissions levels in the future. The meeting also addressed the continued development and role of scenarios for climate change research in the IPCC and the broader scientific and policy communities
On May 21, Professor Rothman also participated in a special meeting on the representation of socio-economic inequality in quantitative scenarios. This meeting included researchers from the World Bank, National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), and International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA). The group explored the methodologies used by various modeling groups to forecast within-country income inequality, including a comparison of preliminary results.
Professor Rothman was invited to both events by an IPCC scientific steering committee based on his expertise and past experience in scenario analysis.
