Pardee Joins Experts Gathering to Advance Environmental Assessment Report-Vienna
Over 200 experts from 82 countries met in Vienna, Austria to continue drafting the seventh edition of the Global Environment Outlook (GEO-7) report. The meeting, held from January 15-19, aimed to further develop the content of the report's chapters and strengthen connections between them ahead of the peer review process.
The GEO report is an environmental assessment published every seven years by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). This extensive report analyzes the state of the global environment, emerging issues, and policy responses.
The Pardee Center’s Director, Jonathan Moyer, and Associate Director for Development Analysis, Taylor Hanna, are Lead Authors contributing to chapters in the Outlooks section which is dedicated to modeling the future along current trends and two transformation pathways joined the several actors for this year’s event.
The Pardee Center is supporting the GEO-7 effort with its International Futures tool, focusing on human development and well-being outcomes by modeling the effect of the transformation pathways on things like poverty, health, and security.
With authors now focused on refining their respective chapters in preparation for the upcoming peer review, the Vienna meeting represented an important step toward completing a comprehensive, policy-relevant environmental evaluation that underscores shared responsibility.
The next stage will involve integrating refined model projections before the authors convene again in September 2024.
