Sudan at the Crossroads: Strategic Policy Choices, COVID-19 and Socio-Economic Development to 2040

May 01, 2020

The Pardee center was selected for a project with UNDP Sudan and was responsible for data assessment to better understand what information is necessary to align recent-year forecasts
with the Sudanese reality, model assessment and a final report.

This report quantitatively models four scenarios that represent alternative development pathways for Sudan that focus on two dimensions of uncertainty, the effect of COVID-19 on the economy and health, and alternative development policy choices. It utilizes an impact analysis, comparing two plausible alternative economic scenarios for Sudan with two additional COVID-19 scenarios, to highlight the difference in terms of impact on the Sudanese people and the prospects for successful progression of the transition period. The report serves as an important advocacy tool for the international donor community and for UNDP’s efforts in Sudan.
